Overview

The conference will provide attendees with up-to-date information on the biology, diagnosis, and treatment of colorectal cancer. In addition to lectures, the conference will include opportunities for interactive exchange of ideas between participants and faculty.

Thursday, November 8
Tri-Institutional Robotic Symposium

The symposium will include live and recorded demonstrations of surgical techniques, detailed step-by-step analysis of surgical procedures, and presentations by experts on the latest advances in the use of robotic technology for minimally invasive surgical treatment of colorectal cancer.

This symposium is intended for colon and rectal surgeons, general surgeons, surgical oncologists, fellows, residents, PAs, NPs, RNs, and anyone interested in learning about robotic surgery.

Educational Objectives:

  • Understand the requirements for a successful robotic colorectal program
  • Become familiar with different approaches to minimally invasive colorectal procedures
  • Review the principles of complete mesenteric excision in colorectal cancer

Rectal MRI Workshop (Thursday, November 8th) - This hands-on workshop for practicing radiologists, radiologists in training, and anyone with an interest in pelvic MRI will run concurrently with the symposium on robotics. For details and registration, visit mskcc.org/RectalMRI.

Friday-Saturday, November 9-10
Symposium on Nonmetastatic Colon Cancer

International thought leaders will provide up-to-date information regarding optimal care for patients with nonmetastatic colon cancer. Advances in imaging, neoadjuvant therapies, surgical techniques, and tumor profiling are leading to opportunities for greater personalization of treatment. One of the challenges faced by clinical practitioners and healthcare organizations is timely integration of these important innovations, often developed at specialty centers, into day-to-day clinical practice in the community setting, closer to where patients live.

With multidisciplinary expert panel discussions of real-life clinical scenarios and interactive audience participation, this symposium will examine key decision points in the management of nonmetastatic colon cancer. Attendees will learn how to tailor care to the unique needs of their patients and appreciate the value of interdisciplinary partnerships for optimizing outcomes.

This symposium will help oncologists, surgeons, gastroenterologists, pathologists, and other oncology care team members acquire clinically relevant, cutting-edge knowledge and translate it into best practices.

Educational Objectives:

  • Update participants on the latest developments in screening for colon cancer
  • Improve understanding of epidemiologic trends, causes, and treatment considerations specific to young-onset colon cancer
  • Increase familiarity with current approaches to improving the quality of surgery and optimizing colon cancer outcomes
  • Bring participants up to date on risk stratification and the use of adjuvant therapy for nonmetastatic colon cancer

Call for Abstracts (Submission Deadline: October 1, 2018)

Participants are invited to submit an abstract for presentation at the poster session. Abstracts will be selected on the basis of scientific merit and presentation quality. Three travel grants will be awarded: Attendings’ Choice Award, Best Resident/Fellow Award and People’s Choice Award. To submit an abstract for this course, please click on the 'Abstracts' link above. A discounted rate is available for authors of accepted posters. Information will be included in your acceptance email.

This educational activity is endorsed by the AGA Institute and the American College of Gastroenterology
