Overview

This symposium is designed to provide a general overview of various critical care topics and will include optional simulation based training days using bedside ultrasonography. This course is intended for nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, physicians and other healthcare professionals interested in critical care.

Lecture Sessions will be held at Zuckerman Research Center on Tuesday, March 27th. Attendees interested in the hands-on workshop will have the option to register for either Monday, March 26th, or Wednesday, March 28th (select one). Both workshop sessions will be held at Rockefeller Research Laboratories. 

Monday, March 26: Ultrasound Workshop*

*Attendees may register for either Monday, March 26th, or Wednesday, March 28th (select one). Space is limited to allow each participant sufficient opportunity to interact with faculty - please be sure to register early.

Ultrasound Workshop

Point of care ultrasound is now an indispensable tool for emergency and critical care providers. Our workshop is aimed at helping providers gain a foundational understanding of point of care ultrasonography and basic skills to acquire and interpret ultrasound images. We will do so through didactics, guided image interpretation and supervised hands-on image acquisition on live models. Students should feel confident after the workshop that they gained the foundation and is equipped for further skill advancements through education and practice in the future.

Objectives
Workshop Objectives
  • Understand the basic indications of point of care ultrasonography
  • Understand the basic principles of vascular, thoracic and cardiac point of care ultrasonography
  • Recognize gross ultrasonographic abnormalities of common pathologies
  • Acquire basic hands-on ultrasound image acquisition skills

Lecture Objectives

  1. Understand likely etiological organisms and therapeutic regimens for common CNS infections
  2. Decipher common abnormalities on Brain MRI images
  3. Describe the management of patients undergoing CAR-T Cell treatment, common complications, and management
  4. Discuss pharmacology and toxicology of new oral anticoagulants (NOAC) and antidotes
  5. Understand the physiology of the heart by using vector physics and electrical axis on EKGs
  6. Describe how ICU metrics are utilized in delivering high-quality health care in ICUs
  7. Discuss mechanical assistive devices commonly used in cardiogenic shock
  8. Discuss the management of massive transfusion in surgical patients
  9. Describe current goal directed strategies to enhance quality of CPR
  10. Describe the approach and management to the difficult airway

*Industry professionals may attend CME activities for their own education. Marketing, sales, and promotion of products and services is strictly prohibited at MSK CME activities.

  • MSK Staff Registration - Registration is complimentary for MSK staff. However, you must complete course registration to attend this course. 

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee, less a $75 administrative fee, will be refunded when email notification is received by the MSK Office of Continuing Medical Education (MSK CME) at least 7 days prior to the first day of the course ([email protected]).

Cancellations or no-shows after this date are not eligible for a refund. MSK CME reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event we must cancel or postpone this course, we will refund the registration fee in full, but are not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees incurred by airline/travel/lodging agencies. At any time, you may substitute another registrant in your place after contacting MSK CME with the relevant information.
