Overview

Dermoscopy permits the observer to visualize skin structures located below the stratum corneum that are not visible to the unaided eye. The morphology visualized through dermoscopy has led to improved clinical diagnostic accuracy with increased sensitivity and specificity for the detection of cutaneous malignancies.

Target Audience

This educational activity is designed for Dermatologists, Family Physicians, General Internists, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.

Educational Workshop Room

Equipment will be available for hands-on practice and demonstrations for all participants during the breaks and lunch in Zuckerman 136.

Reflectance Confocal Microscopy Workshop*

Reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) is a non-invasive device that images skin lesions at high resolution in vivo similar to traditional pathology. RCM has shown high sensitivity and specificity for detection of skin cancers (melanocytic and non-melanocytic). RCM has recently been granted Category I Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) reimbursement codes by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. RCM is now advancing as an add-on diagnostic tool to dermoscopy in clinics in the U.S., for early detection of skin cancers, while sparing un-necessary benign diagnosis. To expand RCM role in the clinical practice, there is a need for training a new generation of physicians - the future Confocalists.

Participants can select one of the following session date/times during course registration:

  • Friday, October 13, 2017 from 5:15-6:15 pm
  • Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 7:00-8:00 am

We apologize for the inconvenience but the Confocal Microscopy Workshop is currently SOLD OUT.

Sponsors

Memorial Sloan Kettering gratefully acknowledges the following organizations for providing educational grants, financial support, or in-kind equipment donation for this live activity:

  • 3Gen, Inc.
  • Canfield Scientific, Inc.
  • FotoFinder Systems, Inc
  • HEINE USA Ltd.

Objectives
  1. Outline a logical and easy to follow framework for the dermoscopic evaluation of cutaneous lesions.
  2. Identify the features of both melanocytic and non-melanocytic lesions.
  3. Describe a management approach, based on dermoscopic findings, to correctly identify lesions requiring biopsy.
