Course Director, Dr. Manu Jain, welcomes you to the 5th Annual Workshop on Confocal Microscopy for Cutaneous Diagnostics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

 

After the immense success of our last four year courses, we are excited to be back with our 5th Annual Workshop on Confocal Microscopy for Cutaneous Diagnostics.

Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM) is a non-invasive device that images skin lesions at high resolution in vivo similar to traditional pathology. This course is tailored for both novices and experts clinicians practicing RCM in clinics. Based on feedback from last years course, we continue with a half-day course on ex vivo confocal microscopy (EVCM). EVCM can rapidly image freshly excised tissue (without tissue processing and cutting) and is being explored as an alternative to frozen sectioning for a variety of tissues including tumor margin assessment during Mohs surgery. In addition to course content, we are excited to offer learners a pre-recorded basic dermoscopy course given by world renowned dermoscopist, Dr. Ashfaq Marghoob.

For this live course, we have assembled an expert, national and international, confocal faculty. We will have multiple, fun Kahoot! quizzes to test your knowledge and simulate your appetite for learning. During break sessions, the attendees will have opportunity to interact with the faculty. 

At the end of the course, the attendees will develop familiarity with the basics of in vivo and ex vivo confocal microscopy, learn to differentiate routinely encountered benign cutaneous neoplasm from malignant neoplasm, and integrate RCM in their routine clinical workflow.

Day 1 | RCM (In Vivo) Topics 

• Basics: fundamentals of RCM, terminology and RCM features for neoplastic lesions
• Live demo on in vivo reflectance confocal microscopes and on ex vivo reflectance confocal microscopes 
• Practical aspect of integrating RCM in clinical and dermatological surgery (case-based discussion, billing codes, signing-out reports, and small break-out group case discussion with the experts)

Day 2 | Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy (EVCM) Topics

• Introduction and role of EVCM
• EVCM features of normal skin structures, skin neoplasms (melanocytic and non-melanocytic), and inflammatory lesions

Pre-recorded Videos 

• Tips for image acquisition using confocal devices: handheld-RCM (HH-RCM), Wide-Probe RCM (WP-RCM) and ex vivo confocal microscope (EVCM)
• LM margin mapping with handheld-RCM (HH-RCM) device and video mosaicking
• 3-hour Basic Dermoscopy Course with Ashfaq Marghoob, MD

The target audience for this program includes clinical and non clinical practitioners, dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, pathologists, and researchers.

Cancellation Policy*

For all other registrations, if you wish to cancel your participation in this course, you must email [email protected] at least seven (7) days prior to the start of the course, and your refund will be subject to a $25 administrative fee if attending virtually or a $100 administrative fee if attending in-person. Cancellations or no-shows within seven (7) days of the course are not eligible for a refund. Please note that if it has been more than 120 days since payment was processed, a W9 form must be submitted in order process your refund and your refund will be issued in the form of a check payment.
