Overview

 

Oncologic emergencies have rapidly evolved in medicine over the last decade. It continues to develop in parallel with evolving cancer treatments and interventions. In addition to treating complications related to standard/traditional chemotherapies, the development of numerous new cancer treatment modalities presents a whole new field of patient complaints that are just now starting to be seen in emergency rooms across the country. With very few dedicated cancer hospital emergency rooms, patients presenting with cancer emergencies are often inappropriately triaged, diagnosed, under-treated, or often simply referred back to their respective oncologists without resolution of their emergent issues.

This on demand brings together specialists from across all areas of the cancer treatment spectrum to update and enhance the ability of emergency room providers and staff on how to prepare for the common and not-so-common emergency scenarios with which a cancer patient could present.
