Overview

Due to the overwhelming response to this program, we've reached full capacity and are no longer able to accept new registrations. We truly appreciate your interest and encourage you to stay connected for future opportunities!

Access to palliative care is a right to the highest standard of health and an integral component of universal health coverage for patients with serious illness and their caregivers. This innovative 2-day virtual conference is a U.S.-based “coming together” that strives to foster cross-cultural community building and both scientific and experiential wisdom sharing.

A multidisciplinary group of palliative care leaders at the forefront of research, policy, and clinical practice will present on diverse topics, including the psychological needs of people living with serious illnesses, spiritual care needs at the end-of-life, the role of emergency medical services in serious illness care, palliative care advocacy, and care for historically minoritized and marginalized populations.

Condensed over two half-days, this year’s virtual program includes:

  • Special breakout sessions will include experts on psychedelics, end-of-life care, women of color in palliative care, and pediatric palliative care.
  • A highlight of this meeting will be dedicated sessions on the patient and caregiver experiences.
  • A special Schwartz Rounds will facilitate a case-based open and honest discussion on the social and emotional issues health care workers face while caring for patients and families.
  • Participants will be able to engage in the Palliative Story Exchange, a space for interprofessional palliative care clinicians to tell and receive stories.
  • We will feature presentations from palliative care leaders across the world on implementation of the 2014 World Health Assembly (WHA) Resolution 67.19 on Palliative Care.
  • Participants will engage in discussions with inter-professional and internationally based presenters about patient, family, and community implications for palliative care practice and scholarship.

This program is co-hosted by Memorial Sloan Kettering's Supportive Care Service and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Who Should Attend

This virtual Conference is focused on the care of seriously ill patients and their caregivers, and is appropriate for national and international health care workers including and not limited to physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, chaplains, psychiatrists, psychologists, pharmacists, and patient advocates regardless of specialty palliative care or oncology experience. We proudly welcome all members of the community to join complimentary.

Syllabus

Registered attendees will receive access to an online syllabus after the course, which includes select PDFs of the faculty presentations (slides) and recorded videos from the course.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this Symposium, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply interdisciplinary approaches to address patient and family needs across the domains of palliative care to improve quality of life and alleviate serious health-related suffering.
  2. Address health disparities in hospice and palliative care and identify actionable methods to promote social justice.
  3. Discuss national and global advocacy efforts to promote universal access to palliative care as a component of universal health coverage.
  4. Describe evidence-based approaches and advances in symptom management, serious illness communication, bereavement, spiritual care, end-of-life care, and advance care planning.
  5. Describe ethical dilemmas encountered throughout the serious illness trajectory and employ best practices using interdisciplinary models.

Registration

Due to the overwhelming response to this program, we've reached full capacity and are no longer able to accept new registrations. We truly appreciate your interest and encourage you to stay connected for future opportunities!

For inquiries regarding conference registration, please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
