Overview

Digital pathology is rapidly emerging as a new standard of care, enabling the scanning, review, and storage of pathology slides in a fully digital format. These digital workflows enhance patient care through rapid, reliable image retrieval; support remote review and telepathology; enable the use of computational and AI-assisted tools; and facilitate seamless sharing of cases for consultation, collaboration, and education.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) has been a leader in digital pathology adoption since 2006 and has digitized more than 10 million slides across multiple platforms. The operational expertise and real-world lessons learned at MSK provide a practical roadmap for institutions seeking to implement or expand digital pathology programs.

This two-day, in-person course, presented by the MSK Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in collaboration with the Digital Pathology Association (DPA), will provide participants the opportunity to learn of new advances in the field as well as engage with other pathologists and researchers in field.

Program Highlights

— Presentations and interactive discussions facilitated by MSK faculty on the practical implementation of digital pathology, including infrastructure design, workflow validation, regulatory considerations, AI-enabled tools, and operational and financial planning.

— An interactive panel discussion, featuring digital pathology leaders from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medicine, Mount Sinai Health System, Northwell Health, and NYU Langone Health.

— Optional guided tour and live demonstration of the MSK Digital Pathology Laboratory highlighting high-volume scanning operations and preanalytical workflow modifications (limited to 60 participants).

— An introduction to the Digital Pathology Association.

— Complimentary networking reception on Friday evening, providing an opportunity for discussion and professional connections.

— An online syllabus will be made available to all attendees following the course and will include select PDFs of faculty presentation slides.

This activity is designed for pathologists and researchers interested in large-scale digital pathology operations and the clinical implementation of digital pathology and AI-enabled tools.

Objectives
  1. Describe digital pathology history and integration in pathology practice
  2. Explain the validation process required for clinical grade digital pathology
  3. Discuss digital pathology role in clinical, educational and research use cases
  4. Survey the digital pathology laboratory facilities and view digital tools used in the digital workflows
  5. Recognize the financial cost of digital pathology implementation
