Overview

After the resounding success of our previous six-year courses, we are thrilled to announce the return of our highly anticipated 7th Annual Workshop on Confocal Microscopy for Cutaneous Diagnostics.

Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM) is a non-invasive device that images skin lesions at high resolution in vivo similar to traditional pathology. It has acquired CPT codes in the United States. This course is tailored for both novices and expert clinicians practicing RCM in clinics. Ex vivo confocal microscopy (EVCM) can rapidly image freshly excised tissue (without tissue processing and cutting) and is being explored as an alternative to frozen sectioning for tumor margin assessment and rapid tissue evaluation for dermatology. The future of noninvasive imaging is in a multimodal approach. This year, we are proud to introduce lectures focusing on the pivotal role of these cutting-edge devices in dermatology clinics.

For this live course, we have assembled a distinguished team of confocal experts, comprising both national and international faculty members. Engaging sessions will feature entertaining Kahoot! quizzes designed to test your understanding and simulate your appetite for learning. Additionally, in-person attendees will have the chance to interact with the course faculty during break sessions, fostering valuable networking opportunities.

Day 1 — RCM (In Vivo) Sessions & Hands-on RCM & EVCM Workshop

  • Basics — Fundamentals of RCM, terminology (based on Delphi-consensus)
  • RCM features for non-melanocytic (NML) skin lesions
  • RCM features for melanocytic (ML) skin lesions
  • Expert panel discussion on practical accepts of clinical integration of RCM
  • RCM and EVCM Hands-on Workshop — training and testing of imaging acquisition and tissue handling (available to in-person attendees only)

Day 2 — RCM Case Discussion, EVCM Sessions, and Novel Multimodal Approach

  • RCM Case Discussion: clinical and surgical integration (treatment monitoring)
  • EVCM: Introduction, normal skin structures, skin neoplasms (melanocytic and non-melanocytic), inflammatory lesions, and case discussion
  • BONUS SESSION — Novel noninvasive multi-modal imaging lectures

Pre-Recorded Videos & Course Syllabus

Attendees will be provided access to a series of pre-recorded videos, which are highly recommended for viewing prior to the live program. These videos cover essential content and insights to enhance your learning experience. Detailed instructions for accessing the videos will be emailed to all registered attendees before the start of the program.

  • Tips for image acquisition using confocal devices — Handheld-RCM (HH-RCM), Wide-Probe RCM (WP-RCM), and Ex Vivo Confocal Microscope (EVCM)
  • Lentigo maligna margin mapping with handheld-RCM (HH-RCM) device and video mosaicking
  • Pearls of EVCM
  • Tools to aid image acquisition during Lentigo maligna mapping

In addition to the pre-recorded videos, attendees will receive access to a syllabus after the course concludes, which will include recorded videos of the presentations/lectures. Attendees must check in during the live program in order to receive access to the syllabus, and the syllabus will be available for three months after the course.

Who Should Attend

The target audience for this program includes clinical and non-clinical practitioners, dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, pathologists, medical physicists, residents, fellows, medical students, researchers, and technologists.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic principles of reflectance confocal microscopy
  2. Explain the terminology for reflectance confocal microscopy
  3. Practice and interpret reflectance confocal microscopy at the bedside
  4. Integrate reflectance confocal microscopy in routine clinical and surgical practice
  5. Recognize the features of skin lesions on ex vivo confocal microscopy
  6. Integrate ex vivo confocal microscopy in dermatology practice
  7. Describe the utility of current novel noninvasive multi-modal imaging devices in clinical practice over existing reflectance confocal microscopy
  8. WORKSHOP: Learn to acquire images using reflectance confocal microscopy and ex vivo confocal microscopy devices

Registration

This course offers participants the choice of attending either in person or virtually. In-person registration includes continental breakfast, lunch, and refreshment breaks.
