Overview

This innovative conference, recorded live on September 30 and October 1, 2024, brought together a diverse, cross-cultural community to share scientific insights and experiential wisdom in palliative care. Led by multidisciplinary experts at the forefront of research, policy, and clinical practice, this program explores a broad range of topics, including the psychological needs of individuals with serious illnesses, spiritual care at the end of life, the role of emergency medical services in serious illness care, palliative care advocacy, and addressing the needs of historically marginalized and minoritized populations. Special sessions feature experts on psychedelics, end-of-life care, women of color in palliative care, and pediatric palliative care. Additionally, the conference includes presentations from global palliative care leaders on implementing the 2014 World Health Assembly (WHA) Resolution 67.19 on Palliative Care.

For more information about the program, including a full list of faculty and presentations, view the brochure from the live conference. Please note that the Virtual Schwartz Rounds session is not included in the on-demand offering.

World Hospice & Palliative Care Day is a global initiative dedicated to celebrating and supporting hospice and palliative care worldwide. MSK proudly hosts the annual U.S. celebration, supported by our Supportive Care Service and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, learners will be able to:

  1. Apply interdisciplinary approaches to address patient and family needs across the domains of palliative care to improve quality of life and alleviate serious health-related suffering.
  2. Address health disparities in hospice and palliative care and identify actionable methods to promote social justice.
  3. Discuss national and global advocacy efforts to promote universal access to palliative care as a component of universal health coverage.
  4. Describe evidence-based approaches and advances in symptom management, serious illness communication, bereavement, spiritual care, end-of-life care, and advance care planning.
  5. Describe ethical dilemmas encountered throughout the serious illness trajectory and employ best practices using interdisciplinary models.
