Overview

Recorded live October 10-11, 2025, this on-demand course focuses on the clinical integration of Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM) and Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy (EVCM), with insights into emerging multimodal imaging technologies and the evolving role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in dermatology.

RCM is a non-invasive imaging modality that provides high-resolution, in vivo visualization of skin lesions with close correlation to histopathology. With the recent introduction of U.S. CPT codes, RCM is increasingly incorporated into clinical practice. EVCM enables rapid imaging of freshly excised tissue without processing or sectioning, offering a promising alternative to frozen sections for tumor margin assessment and real-time dermatologic evaluation.

Course topics include:

  • Fundamentals of RCM and standardized terminology (Delphi Consensus)

  • RCM features in melanocytic and non-melanocytic lesions

  • Applications of RCM in surgical dermatology

  • EVCM applications in normal skin, neoplastic, and inflammatory conditions

  • Integrated clinical case discussions

This course also explores the future of non-invasive dermatologic imaging, including Line-Field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography (LC-OCT), Full-Field OCT (FF-OCT), cross-sectional multimodality imaging, RCM-OCT hybrid systems, and emerging applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in dermatologic imaging and clinical decision-making.

A complete list of presentations and faculty is available in the brochure from the live course.

This program is designed for both newcomers and experienced clinical and non-clinical professionals, including dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, pathologists, medical physicists, residents, fellows, medical students, researchers, and technologists.

Objectives
  1. Describe the basic principles of Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
  2. Explain the terminology for Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
  3. Integrate Reflectance Confocal Microscopy in routine clinical and surgical practice
  4. Interpret Reflectance Confocal Microscopy at the bedside
  5. Recognize the features of skin lesions on Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy
  6. Integrate Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy in dermatology practice
  7. Describe the utility of current novel noninvasive multi-modal imaging devices in clinical practice over existing Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
  8. Learn the role of artificial intelligence in noninvasive imaging
