Overview

As the management of localized prostate cancer shifts from whole-gland treatment toward more tailored interventions, the ability to accurately detect and localize disease is paramount. This comprehensive one-day course is designed for urologists seeking to master the novel approaches in diagnostics and treatment for prostate cancer care: the integration of advanced MRI-targeted diagnostics with novel focal therapy modalities.

The program begins by addressing the critical challenge of patient selection, utilizing multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) and PI-RADS v2.1 scoring to distinguish candidates for focal ablation from those requiring active surveillance or whole-gland treatment. Participants will explore the foundational role of mapping image-guided biopsies—including transperineal and fusion techniques—to accurately delineate tumor margins and ensure oncological control while preserving functional outcomes.

The program includes:

  • Didactic Lectures: Expert faculty will provide evidence-based updates on High-intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), genomic biomarkers, and the evolving role of AI in tumor mapping.

  • Semi-Live Surgery: High-definition video-based surgical demonstrations will allow participants to observe real-time procedural steps, from patient positioning and energy delivery to intraprocedural monitoring.

  • Panel-Based Case Discussions: Interactive sessions will feature multidisciplinary panels debating complex clinical scenarios, focusing on salvage strategies, surveillance protocols post-focal therapy, and the management of complications.

Participants are also invited to attend a networking reception following the accredited sessions. RSVP for the reception is recommended at the time of registration.

This course will be held in person only and is intended for urology faculty, fellows, and residents involved in the care of patients with prostate cancer.

Objectives
  1. Critically evaluate patient eligibility for focal therapy by integrating mpMRI findings (PI-RADS v2.1), genomic biomarkers, and biopsy data to differentiate between candidates for ablation and those requiring radical intervention
  2. Execute precise MRI-ultrasound fusion techniques to improve the detection of clinically significant prostate cancer while minimizing the detection of indolent disease.
  3. Design accurate focal ablation treatment zones by applying evidence-based safety margins (5–10mm) to targeted mapping data to ensure oncological control of the index lesion.
  4. Implement a standardized post-treatment surveillance protocol using PSA kinetics and serial mpMRI to accurately monitor for recurrence and manage "salvage" decision-making.
