Overview

This two and a half day course is designed to give a current review of thoracic pathology with clinical and radiologic correlations. The course will run for two and one half days and will consist of a series of presentations with some multidisciplinary sessions regarding lung cancer, interstitial lung disease and non-neoplastic lung disease. Updates on the WHO Classification of Lung Tumors, the 8th Edition TNM Staging Classification, and ATS/ERS Classification of Idiopathic Interstitial Pneumonias will be presented.

Most of the speakers will be expert lung pathologists, but there will also be clinical and radiologic presentations by well-known thoracic clinicians and radiologists. The presentations will illustrate the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to solving difficult problems in thoracic disease.

The course will be held on the campus of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a vibrant and safe neighborhood within easy access of the widely varied cultural attractions of New York City.

Objectives
  1. Ability to grasp current concepts in lung, pleural and mediastinal pathology
  2. Understand the importance of correlation between clinical, radiologic and pathologic data in diagnosis
  3. Know the significance of lung biopsy and multidisciplinary correlation for the diagnosis of non-neoplastic
  4. Know the significance of lung biopsy and multidisciplinary correlation for the diagnosis of non-neoplastic
  5. Realize the important issues in molecular targeted therapy for lung adenocarcinoma
  6. Understand differential diagnosis for mediastinal and pleural lesions
  7. Understand the usefulness of cytology in pulmonary, pleural and mediastinal diagnoses
