Overview

This complimentary webinar series is a collaborative venture between the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences and the Supportive Care Service, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami Health System, the University of Miami Institute for Advanced Study of the Americas, and the International Association for Hospice Palliative Care.

Through this international endeavor that emerged from the Lancet Commission on Global Access to Palliative Care and Pain Relief, we seek to elevate the academic discourse and clinical impact of palliative care to alleviate serious health-related suffering worldwide. Through our tri-institutional partnership, we will disseminate the science and scholarship of the Global Palliative Care and Pain Relief Research Hub and invite commentary from recognized health systems and policy leaders around the world. Implications for research, clinical practice, education and training, and policy and advocacy efforts will be addressed.

This series covers a broad range of topics related to palliative care and pain relief, with an emphasis on global health equity, universal access to palliative care as a component of universal health coverage, and social justice through the following 5 sessions:

  • The U.S. Cancer Pain Crisis and the Global Pain Divide: Two Wrongs and No Closer to Right
  • How to Close the Global Pain Divide: Global Essential Medicine Distribution and Access
  • Epi-Transitions in the Global Disease Burden and the Need for Palliative Care
  • Comparative Models in Palliative Care: Perspectives from Africa, Asia, and the Americas
  • Optimizing the Global Palliative Nursing Workforce to Alleviate Serious Health-Related Suffering

On Demand Access

Each session contains a video and PDFs of speaker presentations. Click 'Course Content' at the top of the page to view a list of the five sessions. Select the 'Launch Video' button under the session you wish to watch to view the recording. When you have finished the video, refer to instructions listed under each sessions section on the 'Course Content' page to claim CME credit.

This on demand program will be available until June 30, 2023. CME Credits must be claimed by June 30, 2023

Who Would Benefit from the Series

This webinar is intended for: 1) multidisciplinary healthcare providers; 2) palliative care specialists; 3) students and trainees; 4) researchers; and 5) multi-sector stakeholders and advocates invested in advancing palliative care and relief access.

Objectives
  1. Discuss emerging research in global palliative care and pain relief access to alleviate serious health-related suffering worldwide.
  2. Describe the structural and system-level barriers that prevent universal access to palliative care as a component of universal health coverage.
  3. Recognize public and global health inequities in palliative care and pain relief and actionable methods to promote social justice.
  4. Identify national and global advocacy efforts and opportunities to increase palliative care and pain relief access across contexts and clinical settings.

Registration

Registration for this complete webinar series (all 5 sessions) is complimentary. However, you must have a MSK CME account on this site and be logged in to watch the sessions and claim CME credit.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
