Overview

The use of pelvic MRI for staging and restaging rectal cancer continues to expand in routine clinical practice, supported by extensive evidence demonstrating its impact on clinical outcomes. This hands-on course is designed to help participants develop or refine essential rectal MRI interpretation skills.

The program combines concise didactic lectures with whole-case reviews on individual workstations, covering a full range of rectal cancer cases—including uncommon tumors and anal cancer. A detailed course manual, featuring annotated images, serves as a guide to all cases. Please be advised that early registration is strongly encouraged, as workstation capacity is limited.

Special emphasis will be placed on commonly encountered pitfalls along with expert diagnostic “pearls.” Post-treatment restaging cases will be emphasized, as they are increasingly common and require significant expertise to interpret accurately. By the end of the course, participants will be more confident and proficient in interpreting rectal MRI.

The target audience for this workshop includes practicing radiologists, radiologists in training, and other healthcare professionals with an interest in pelvic MRI.

Location: This workshop will be held in person at the Zuckerman Research Center, Rooms 105 and 136. Detailed participation instructions will be emailed to all registered attendees prior to the start of the program.

Post-Workshop Resources: Following the conclusion of the workshop, participants will receive access to an online syllabus containing PDF files of the faculty presentations. In addition, attendees will have access to the case materials for two weeks after the event.

Colorectal Oncology Symposium: Participants may also be interested in attending the 9th Annual Advances in Colorectal Oncology Symposium, taking place on November 6–7 at Memorial Sloan Kettering. Additional details about this program will be available soon.

Objectives
  1. Perform high-quality MRI of the pelvis for rectal and anal cancer evaluation
  2. Interpret baseline staging MRI for rectal and anal cancer
  3. Interpret post-treatment, restaging MRI for rectal cancer
  4. Discuss the value of synoptic/structured reports for rectal and anal cancer
