Thoracic Pathology Course 2025 — On Demand

This on-demand course offers a comprehensive review of thoracic pathology with integrated clinical and radiologic correlations. It is co-sponsored by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and endorsed by the Pulmonary Pathology Society (PPS). The live course rotates annually between MSK and MGH, with next year’s program to be hosted at MGH.

Recorded live on October 17–18, 2025 at MSK, the program features expert-led lectures, in-depth discussions, and case-based presentations covering a wide spectrum of thoracic tumors, along with a multidisciplinary session focused on non-neoplastic lung diseases. Presentations include anticipated updates to the next WHO Classification of Lung Tumors, the 9th Edition TNM Staging Classification, and the 2025 ATS/ERS Classification of Interstitial Pneumonias and Guidelines for the Diagnosis of Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis.

This course is designed for pathologists, pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, and radiologists, including residents and fellows in training. While most faculty are internationally recognized lung pathologists, the agenda also features presentations from distinguished thoracic clinicians and radiologists—underscoring the essential role of a multidisciplinary approach in the evaluation and management of thoracic disease.

1. Discuss the current concepts in lung, pleural and mediastinal pathology
2. Apply clinically relevant advances and technology in molecular pathology of lung cancer
3. Describe the importance of correlation between clinical, radiologic and pathologic data in diagnosis and management of interstitial lung disease
4. Identify the significance of lung biopsy and multidisciplinary correlation for the diagnosis of non-neoplastic lung disease with a focus on interstitial pneumonias, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and acute lung injury
5. Implement the most recent histologic concepts in lung cancer diagnosis and classification including problematic issues related to spiral CT screening
6. Apply the differential diagnosis for mediastinal and pleural lesions
7. Correlate the usefulness of cytology in pulmonary, pleural and mediastinal diagnoses
