Overview

Building on the success of prior programs, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is pleased to present the 9th Annual Course on Advances in Dermatologic Imaging. Led by an expert faculty, this course highlights the clinical integration of Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM) and Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy (EVCM), along with emerging multimodal imaging technologies, including Reflectance Confocal Microscopy–Optical Coherence Tomography (RCM-OCT) and Line-Field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography (LC-OCT).

Choose the learning format that works best for you:

On Demand Access: Register for on demand access to view course materials and claim credit for the enduring activity at your convenience through April 30, 2027. You will be notified when the content becomes available (a few weeks after the live event on October 25, 2026). Register for On Demand Access

Participate Live (In Person or Virtually): Attend the course in real time onsite at MSK or join virtually via Zoom. Live participants may claim credit for the live activity and will receive access to an online syllabus, including pre-recorded content and recorded presentations from the live event (available after the course concludes). Register for Live Participation

View the course brochure for additional details on available content.

Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM) is a noninvasive imaging modality that provides high- resolution, in vivo images of skin lesions with near-histologic detail. With the recent introduction of CPT codes in the U.S., RCM is increasingly being integrated into clinical practice. This course prepares participants to effectively incorporate RCM into dermatologic workflows. Sessions include:

  • Fundamentals of RCM and standardized terminology (Delphi consensus)

  • RCM features in melanocytic and non-melanocytic lesions

  • Applications in surgical dermatology

  • Integrating RCM in Dermatologic Surgery: Residual Basal Cell Carcinoma, Lentigo Maligna Margins, and Treatment Monitoring (PDT, Fluorouracil, and Imiquimod)

  • Clinical integration (expert panel)

  • Case-based discussions

Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy (EVCM) enables rapid imaging of freshly excised tissue without processing, offering a promising alternative to frozen sections for margin assessment and real-time evaluation. Sessions include:

  • Applications of EVCM in neoplastic and inflammatory skin disease

  • EVCM features of inflammatory lesions

  • Pearls of EVCM

  • Recent advances in EVCM

  • Case-based discussions

The future of noninvasive dermatologic imaging lies in a multimodal approach that integrates complementary technologies for more comprehensive assessment. This course features:

  • Line-Field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography (LC-OCT), including clinical integration in the U.S. and Europe

  • Reflectance Confocal Microscopy - Optical Coherence Tomography (RCM-OCT) hybrid imaging

Introductory materials are available to help build foundational skills in image acquisition prior to engaging with the full program, including:

  • Image Acquisition Using Handheld RCM (HH-RCM), Wide-Probe RCM (WP-RCM), and EVCM

  • Tools to Aid Image Acquisition During Lentigo Maligna Mapping

  • Lentigo Maligna Margin Mapping

This program is designed for dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, pathologists, medical physicists, residents, fellows, medical students, researchers, technologists, and other clinicians and scientists interested in advancing dermatologic imaging.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe the basic principles of Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
  2. Explain the terminology for Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
  3. Integrate Reflectance Confocal Microscopy in routine clinical and surgical practice
  4. Practice and interpret Reflectance Confocal Microscopy at the bedside
  5. Recognize the features of skin lesions on Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy
  6. Integrate Ex Vivo Confocal Microscopy in dermatology practice
  7. Describe the utility of current novel noninvasive multi-modal imaging devices in clinical practice over existing Reflectance Confocal Microscopy
