Overview

This two-and-a-half-day course is designed to give a current review of thoracic pathology with clinical, radiologic, and molecular correlations. The program will consist of a series of presentations, including some multidisciplinary sessions, on lung cancer, interstitial lung disease, and non-neoplastic lung disease.

Updates on the 2021 WHO Classification of Lung Tumors, the 8th Edition TNM Staging Classification, the ATS/ERS Classification of Idiopathic Interstitial Pneumonias, and Guidelines for Diagnosis of Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis will be presented. Most speakers will be expert lung pathologists, but there will also be clinical and radiologic presentations by well-known thoracic clinicians and radiologists. The presentations will illustrate the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to solving difficult problems in thoracic disease.

This program is co-sponsored with Massachusetts General Hospital and endorsed by the Pulmonary Pathology Society.

In-person or Virtual

Join us in person, September 29th through October 1st, 2023, on the campus of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a vibrant and safe neighborhood within easy access of the widely varied cultural attractions of New York City. A virtual option is also available for those unable to join us in person.

Online Syllabus

Registered attendees will receive access to an online syllabus after the course, which includes select PDFs of the faculty presentations (slides) and recorded videos from the course. MSK CME will email attendees when this becomes available. Attendees must check in on the day of the Symposium in order to receive access to the syllabus.

Who Should Attend

The target audience for this course includes pathologists, pulmonologists, thoracic surgeons, and radiologists, including physicians in training.

  3. Define the importance of correlation between clinical, radiologic and pathologic data in diagnosis and management of interstitial lung disease
  4. Recognize the significance of lung biopsy and multidisciplinary correlation for the diagnosis of non-neoplastic lung disease with a focus on interstitial pneumonias, hypersensitivity pneumonitis and acute lung injury
  5. Comprehend the most recent histologic concepts in lung cancer diagnosis and classification including problematic issues related to spiral CT screening
  6. Recognize the differential diagnosis for mediastinal and pleural lesions
  7. Describe the usefulness of cytology in pulmonary, pleural and mediastinal diagnoses
