Overview
 

Live Virtual Training

Due to the ongoing outbreak of COVID-19, the MSK Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program will now take place on June 15-18, 2020 in a live virtual format.

We do ask that all registered attendees have access to a computer or laptop with a built in Video Camera or external Webcam as this training is highly interactive. The training instructors will ask for attendee participation throughout lectures and group training activities. Additional pre-training instructions, including how to access the live virtual program, will be emailed to all attendees prior to the start of the program.

 

Tobacco Treatment Specialists (TTS’s) are healthcare professionals who possess the skills, knowledge, and training to provide effective, evidence-based interventions for tobacco dependence across a range of treatment intensities, in varying contexts, treatment modalities, and with different tobacco using populations.

The MSK 4-day, Tobacco Treatment Specialist Live Virtual Training Program is designed to train multidisciplinary clinicians who work in various healthcare and community settings including primary care, behavioral health, addictions and rehabilitation settings, public housing, oncology settings, specialty medical care (e.g. pulmonary medicine, cardiology, oncology), and worksite wellness settings.

Upon completion, participants will receive a training certificate, which makes them eligible for the National Certificate in Tobacco Treatment Practice (NCTTP), recognizing expertise in tobacco treatment delivery.

Objectives
By attending this live virtual training program, attendees will:

  1. Understand the Tobacco Treatment Specialists roles, responsibilities, professional development, and credentialing
  2. Describe and identify comprehensive approaches to tobacco control
  3. Demonstrate understanding of tobacco products in marketing, design, prevalence of use, and health consequences
  4. Identify and describe the biopsychosocial approach to understanding and treating tobacco use
  5. Assess the comprehensive clinical assessment of the tobacco user
  6. Understand the principles of evidence-based, patient-centered, behavior change treatment strategies
  7. Demonstrate understanding of pharmacotherapy for tobacco use
  8. Analyze and evaluate treatment processes
  9. Understand documentation, coding, billing, health insurance, and program evaluation
  10. Describe and identify law and ethics

  • MSK Employee Waitlist. Registration is complimentary for MSK Employees, however we ask that interested MSK Employees register for the waitlist. You will be notified at least a week prior to the course if a spot is available for you. If you are registered for this course and are unable to attend, please email [email protected].

After your payment has been processed, no further promotional discount adjustments will be made to your registration.

Cancellation Policy

If you cancel your participation in this course, your registration fee, less a $25 administrative fee, will be refunded when email notification is received by the MSK Office of Continuing Medical Education (MSK CME) at least 7 days prior to the first day of the course ([email protected]).

Cancellations or no-shows after this date are not eligible for a refund. MSK CME reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course due to unforeseen circumstances. In the unlikely event we must cancel or postpone this course, we will refund the registration fee in full, but are not responsible for any related costs, charges, or expenses to participants, including fees incurred by airline/travel/lodging agencies. At any time, you may substitute another registrant in your place after contacting MSK CME with the relevant information.

Please note if it has been more than 120 days since you paid for a course, or submitted a check for payment, a W9 form will need to be completed for us to refund your registration. You will not be taxed on your refund.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

AMA Credit Designation Statement

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 29.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Social Work Accreditation Statement

This presentation is approved for a maximum of twenty eight point seven five (28.75) Continuing Education Contact Hours of Live In-Person Training. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #SW-0228.
